HELLO, I'M PAT MATTAS

Tell your story, Pat!   That's the advice my best friend gave to me when I told her that I was creating a website.  My response - Yes, of course, tell my story.   So why are my hands sweating and my heart pounding?  Perhaps, I am reacting to the inner voice that taunts - Speak your truth, and you'll be laughed at.   But, I am quickly reminded - the truth makes people free.  Thus, let me throw off the shackles of fear and doubt, and open wide the gate into my life and heart.........

June 4, 2010 was a watershed moment for me.  It marked the end of sixteen years as a full-time homeschooling mom.  My three children were embarking on their college years, and I was about to be left with an empty nest and no identity.

My empty nest was filled with the nagging question: What could I, a single parent who had been out of the mainstream workforce for sixteen years, do to support three college-bound children?   When I listened to my head, it said, Return to Hartford Hospital. Don't waste the ten years of nursing experience gained in the operating room and neonatal intensive care unit.  When I listened to the world, it said, You’ll fail if you don’t upgrade your education.  Instead, I chose to listen to the voice within; it said, Follow your passion – teaching.

In 2010, I opened my door for tutoring.  I began tutoring grades K-12 in reading, writing, handwriting, spelling, reading comprehension, grammar, literature, elementary math, mid-level math, Algebra I & II, geometry, and SAT prep.  In addition to my private practice, I was also teaching reading/writing remediation to high school students in the Wesleyan University Upward Bound Program.  Throughout this period, I taught students from Burundi, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh, Jamaica, China, and Russia.

By 2011, my practice included children with special needs:  Asperger’s, ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, OCD, and sensory disorders.  Disconcerted by the vast number of children with multiple dysfunctions, I started searching for answers.  I discovered Brain Integration Therapy (BIT).   From the moment I began BIT, remarkable changes occurred in my students.

In 2012, as I was scanning my emails, a message from Advanced Brain Technologies (ABT) caught my attention.  Ordinarily, I am quick to delete what I consider advertisements.  Not this time!  I opened it. The program was called The Listening Program (TLP)....it was an answer to prayer.   Within three months, I became a Certified Provider of TLP.  Since incorporating TLP into my practice,  I and my clients have become the recipients of life-changing brain improvements.

In 2015, I continued my quest to understand neuroplasticity.  I became an Authorized Provider of ABT’s latest brain health program – inTime.   The implementation of inTime has opened vistas of change for my clients that never seemed possible.

In 2018, I achieved one of my longtime goals: I became a Certified Natural Vision Teacher/Coach. Personally, this process has changed my life. It has awakened so many possibilities. Without a doubt, I will be able to take my clients to even higher levels of awareness.

Every day when I awake, I thank God for the privilege of being able to witness children and adults becoming their personal best.  I am humbled and awed that He allows me to be an instrument in His hands.
